By Firefighter Adam Nolder

Just after midnight on March 26, 2016, firefighters and paramedics from Howard County (MD) Department of Fire and Rescue Services (HCDFRS) were alerted for a possible house on fire in the 2100 block of Route 97 in Cooksville, Maryland. Units from Station 13 (Glenwood) quickly arrived to find fire showing from the second floor of a three-story, single-family home.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack and found heavy fire conditions in the second floor and attic areas. It took approximately one hour to extinguish the bulk of the fire and (due to building construction) another three hours to open up ceilings and walls to extinguish all the hot spots.

No one was reported to be living in the home at the time of the fire. HCDFRS was assisted by units from Carroll, Montgomery, and Frederick Counties. Fire investigators are currently on the scene working to determine a cause and point of origin.
