A Mesa home was destroyed early Tuesday morning after a fire that caused a roof to collapse shortly after firefighters evacuated the house, reports azcentral.com.
Firefighters responded to a Mesa house fire in the area of Pueblo Avenue and Val Vista Drive just after 3 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a call that two houses were on fire, said Deputy Chief Forrest Smith, a Mesa fire spokesman.
Crews arrived to find a house and a storage shed on fire, Smith said.
The fire burned hot in the home’s attic, Smith said, and firefighters evacuated the home right before the roof collapsed.
Firefighters doused the flames from outside the home and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby houses, he said.
Smith said the homeowners escaped the home before the crew arrived. The residents’ two dogs were rescued from the home, he added.
