Firefighters Face Frigid Conditions in Wyoming County (PA) House Fire

Firefighters from 16 departments across Wyoming and Lackawanna Counties were called to a challenging house fire early Wednesday morning on Main Street in Nicholson.

Brutal subzero temperatures added to the difficulty as water used to combat the flames froze on gear, leaving firefighters encased in ice.

The fire broke out in a two-story home, and firefighters faced structural risks, including the potential for collapse.

Crews rotated shifts at warming stations to prevent hypothermia. EMS personnel provided warm drinks and stood by in case medical aid was needed.

No one was home when the fire started, but the family has been displaced.
