Firefighters performing an investigation at an abandoned house in Waterbury, Connecticut found themselves covered in fleas and had to be tested for the bubonic plague.
After finishing up at the home and returning to their apparatus, a news report indicated that the firefighters began itching like crazy. They soon realized they were being attacked by thousands of fleas, and were taken to the hospital, where they had to strip down in a parking lot, were scrubbed off, and tested for flea-borne diseases.
The flea infestation was so bad, the apparatus was taken out of service until the fleas were killed by fumigator. All the firefighters received treatment and are now back to work.
