Corpus Christi firefighters responded as part of a mutual aid call to surrounding departments from Robstown crews. Three other firefighters were treated at the scene.

The fire burned a local gym and the building next to it. At one point, there was a small explosion in the vacant building that led to all crews being pulled out of the building to fight the fire from the exterior.
