The fire broke out at the Mar Del Sol apartments on Woodfair near Club Creek shortly before 3:30 p.m. Firefighters responded and gained control of the fire shortly after 4 p.m.

At one point, HFD said a child was reportedly rescued, but fire officials on scene tell Local 2 that was not the case. There was also a report of other people trapped inside, but HFD says there was no evidence of that.

At least 16 units were affected, and HFD tells Local 2 that apartment management says only eight of them were occupied. Arson investigators are on the scene.

The Red Cross is being mobilized to assist displaced residents.

One firefighter twisted his ankle and was treated on the scene, then transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest.
