On Monday, September 1, 2015, firefighters with the Warren (MI) Fire Department responded to a reported junkyard on fire at 26600 Bunert & I-696.
Engine 2 arrived on the scene and reported heavy smoke and fire showing. Engine 2 advised they would be stretching on a large fire in the junkyard. Engine 5 also arrived on the scene and stretched on the fire. Battalion Chief 3 arrived on the scene and assumed incident command, reporting a large pile of cars and grass burning.
TRAINING HELPS CURTAIL JUNKYARD FIRE
Two additional Engines were requested to the scene. Truck 4 was put into position for aerial operations. Due to the progress of the fire and water supply issues, BC-3 requested a second alarm. Once a good water supply was established, this fire was brought under control in about one hour.
Responding to this incident were Warren Engines 2, 5, 1,3, and 6; Truck 4; Squad 2, 5, and 6; BC3 and special operations command responded. Mutual aid was provided by the Centerline, Detroit Arsenal, Roseville, Eastpointe, and Sterling Heights Fire Departments.
