Firefighters Respond to El Paso (TX) House Fire

At approximately 10:03 p.m., Wednesday, December 25, 2013, firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 1632 Vista Real Drive after the homeowner called 9-1-1 and reported their roof was on fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw smoke coming from the roof of a single-story home. Two adult occupants were inside the home at the time of the fire and safely self evacuated. No injuries were reported.

The homeowners told firefighters they heard a small explosion in the attic space above their fireplace and immediately evacuated and called 9-1-1. Firefighters extinguished the fire in less than 20 minutes and contained the fire to the attic space around the fireplace.

A fire investigator determined the explosion was caused by gas build up in the attic space and the explosion ignited the wood beams. Damages are estimated at $40,000.00. The displaced homeowners have an alternate place to stay while repairs are made to their home.

Approximately 7 units and 19 firefighters responded to this incident.
