Firefighters Respond to Four-Alarm IL Chemical Plant Fire

Fire crews are responding to a significant fire at Carus Chemical in La Salle, Illinois.

According to various social media reports, the fire at 1500 8th Street has gone to at least four alarms.

According to shawlocal.com, the fire prompted evacuations from the plant, with clouds of smoke billowing from the site. The fire reportedly occured in the plant’s shipping department. NBC reported that, according to La Salle police, an explosion occurred in a shipping container in the shipping department of Carus Chemical.

Video and photos from the scene posted to social media showed a large volume of fire and smoke at the location. Residents of the area were being asked to shelter in place.

According to their website, Carus Chemical produces chemicals used in potable and industrial water systems and to treat drinking water, wastewater, industrial process chemicals, and more.
