At about 2300 hours on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, the Royal Oak (MI) Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at Hampton & Samoset.
Upon arrival of Engine 9-20, firefighters found a 1 1/2-story dwelling with heavy smoke showing. Crews established a water supply and forced entry into the dwelling while stretching lines.
Crews made an interior attack and ventilated the roof. Interior crews reported the floor was starting to collapsed and there was heavy fire in the attic, so command changed operations to exterior due to building safety and fire load.
Exterior lines were put into operation to knock the fire down. Interior crews were allowed to re-enter part of the structure after the bulk of the fire was knocked down. Four handlines were used to bring this fire under control in about two hours. Stations 1, 2, and 3 responded to this incident along with the fire chief, fire marshal, and inspector.
