On October 24, dispatch informed Rocky Mount (NC) Fire Department units were notified by communications that an inbound Amtrak train was possibly on fire. The train arrived within five minutes of arrival of firefighters.
It was determined that natural vegetation (leaves) was packed inside the brakes and had ignited. Engine 2 and Ladder 10 personnel removed the debris and ensured there were no hot spots in other areas. The fire was out on arrival and there was no damage. Firefighters were on location for 50 minutes.
Units responding were:Battalion Chief 1, Engine 1 and 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 2, and Nash County EMS.
