Firefighters Save Long Island (NY) Home with Pool Water

Long Island firefighters used pool water to save a house while fighting a wildfire earlier this week. Newsday reports that they arrived on the scene to find flames shooting more than 75 feet high. Amongst they fire departments they had 1,500 gallons of water. (

When that supply ran out, they used the water in the backyard pool, which holds 55,000 gallons. The pool house was not saved but the home was not lost.

A fire department chief recalled fighting a fire in 1995 with pool water, saying “Honestly, that’s a trick we remember.”
