Firefighters recently responded to a two-alarm dwelling fire in Troy, New York, and Sidewinder Photography shared a write-up and some photos from the scene.
On March 20, 2016, the city of Troy was toned for an alarm of fire for box 246, with multiple calls of the house is fully involved. The city of Troy’s police captain was first to arrive on scene within minutes of the dispatch, and stated he had fire through the roof. He began to search for the residents to make sure they made it out okay.While this was going on, additional police units arrived on scene and helped evacuate the residents next door to fully involved home to keep them safe. The police captain quickly found the residents and stated everyone was out of the home.
The City of Troy’s Car 4 called for the second alarm immediately after the police captain called out he had heavy fire on arrival. Engine 2 arrived on scene and went right to work, pulling multiple handlines, including a 2 1/2-inch line to make an aggressive interior attack with members Engine 4. The power lines from the home had caught fire and fell in front of E2.
While this was going on, Truck 2 set up and took the front of the building for master stream operations. Multiple firefighters stretched 5-inch hose across Hoosick Street, shutting down a major roadway so that units would be able to go into master stream operations if needed.

While inside the structure, interior crews had heavy fire above them and were forced from the building due to the heavy fire conditions in the attic and roof for a short time. Firefighters quickly regrouped outside and had T2 use both master streams to control and knock down the heavy fire condition in the attic. At one point, flames were 30 feet in the air, lighting up the night sky over the city of Troy.
Firefighters reentered the building and mounted an aggressive interior attack, getting in to the attic and knocking down any of heavy fire remaining. Firefighters from the city of Troy were able to get the fire under control within about an hour and command had mutual aid from the city of Watervliet and Green Island fire departments; Colonie EMS come into the city to help cover and other calls that might come in. The house was a total loss, but firefighters were able to protect the surrounding homes from any damage and keep the residents safe. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation at this time by New York State Office of fire Prevention and Control.
