Fireworks contributed to a number of fires and injuries around the United States this Fourth of July weekend.
Among the more notable incidents was a fire that broke out early Tuesday on a fireworks barge in the Charles River in Boston. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames on the barge, which fired off Boston’s annual fireworks.
Also, two men were hospitalized in separate Florida incidents: The Coral Springs Fire Department says one man suffered serious injuries to his face after being struck by fireworks, while the Pembroke Pines Fire Department says man was hurt when fireworks he was attempting to light went off in his hand.
As an NFPA pre-July Fourth warning against the use of commercial fireworks reminds us, there are more fires reported on a typical Fourth of July than any other day of the year.
