Santa Clara, CA – A large five-alarm fire burned three large townhouses under construction Wednesday night, causing flames to shoot as high as 10 stories, allowing awestruck witnesses to take pictures both at the scene and miles away.
The fire caused no injuries, and the 50 firefighters who responded kept the flames from reaching nearby occupied homes, said Chief Bill Kelly.
However, the three three-story townhomes that were in the framing stages were completely gone.
It took nearly an hour for the firefighters control the flames, which was first reported at 10 p.m. at a residential complex at 1924 Hillebrant Place, just north of El Camino Real, not far from City Hall.
The first on-scene units instantly recognized that the fire was significant and proceeded to call in multiple resources from the San Jose and Santa Clara County Fire Departments.
