At least five people were killed in a fire at a multifamily home in the village of Spring Valley, New York. Two of the victims were children.
The fire late Saturday ravaged the Rockland County home and caused a partial collapse, the New York Post reported. In addition to those killed in the fire, several others were injured.
Firefighters were called to the two-family Lake Street home at 4:03 a.m, officials said, and the fire was under control in roughly 40 minutes. Fire conditions rebuffed firefighters’ attempts to enter the home, according to the report. Three victims were found on the second floor, with two were found on the first floor, likely due to the second floor collapse, Rockland County Fire Coordinator Christopher Kear said. Five others were hospitalized, and one firefighter was injured and treated on scene; one of the injured occupants had reportedly jumped from a second-story window.
