Five Killed in Garden Prairie (IL) House Fire

A house fire Monday killed five people in the community of Garden Prairie, Illinois, according to reports.

WTVO reported that a child, two teenagers, and two adults died in the early morning farmhouse fire on Fleming Road.

Six people were reportedly hospitalized, with two in critical condition. A house, shed, and three vehicles caught fire, leaving the occupants inside trapped, the report said.

It took firefighters 16 minutes to arrive because of inclement weather and the nearest fire station was unstaffed, Chief Brian Kunce of Boone County Fire District #2 told reporters.

Garden Prairie is located about 20 miles east of Rockford, according to WGN News.
