According to a report from Global News, Peel Regional Police have reported that five people, three children and two adults, have died in a house fire in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Monday morning.
Emergency crews were dispatched to Conestoga Drive, near Sandalwood Parkway and Kennedy Road, just after 2 a.m.
Constable Heather Cannon said two children were initially transported to a local hospital with life-threatening conditions. They both passed away at the hospital a short time later. A third child, along with the children’s mother and father, were discovered dead inside the home.
Brampton Fire Chief Bill Boyes said the ages of the children were six, eight, and 11 years old.
Another adult of was transported to a trauma centre with critical injuries, Cannon said. The relationship between the adult in hospital and the family is unknown.
Boyes said that two other adults were able to escape the house from the basement without any physical injuries. He also said firefighters found heavy smoke and flames on arrival to the home. The fire is now extinguished, but crews are still on scene battling hotspots.
He also reminded residents to make sure their homes have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
