Florida Firefighter Shot After Standoff with Police

A firefighter was shot and killed after a standoff Sunday night with Bradenton (FL) police, according to news reports.

The Bradenton Herald (http://bit.ly/1pg3bDv) reports that police arrived at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday for a domestic situation involving a city firefighter.

Bradenton Police Chief Michael Radzilowski said the man came out into the front yard bearing firearms and threatened to shoot himself and his sister.

The man, Donald Wendt, was fatally shot after pointing guns at police officers, according to the report.

Wendt, 50, joined the Bradenton Fire Department in 2003. He also served was an Iraq War veteran.

In a separate violent episode in Florida Saturday, a gunman reportedly set fire to his home and then shot responding Leon County sheriff’s deputies, killing one and wounding another.
