Forest Fire Alert Drive

Eight fire agencies in Yavapai County, Ariz., have developed a public awareness program, Red Flag Alert, which is designed primarily to reduce forest fires through community involvement.

The alert takes place when winds of 25 mph or more are coupled with extreme fire danger. The combined efforts of 16 agencies, which include 175 mobile units, are devoted to preventing fires from occurring, or detecting them while they are small.

In addition, local merchants display red flags to alert citizens of fire danger. Radio stations will announce when alerts are declared.
