Former Dallas City Councilman Leo Chaney Jr. died following a fire at his home.
Officials say the 62-year-old Chaney Jr. was unresponsive when Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighters discovered him Monday afternoon. Chaney died at a Dallas hospital.
Chaney, who served on the city council from 1999 to 2007, was alone in his residence.
Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the fire. The victim’s brother, Terrence Chaney, says investigators are looking at a possible electrical problem. He also says authorities suspect his brother succumbed to smoke inhalation.
