Four-Alarm Fire Tears Through Multiple Vacants in the Bronx (NY)

According to a report from ABC7, a four-alarm fire burned through two suspected vacant homes on Ogden Avenue in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, New York, early Wednesday morning.

Flames erupted and spread through the two buildings just after 1:10 a.m. Around 180 Fire Department of New York (FDNY) firefighters took several hours to bring the flames under control.

Residents from adjacent apartment buildings had to be evacuated as a precaution. The fire did not spread beyond the two homes, and no injuries have been reported.

Although the homes were vacant, neighbors said squatters have been seen there in the past.

FDNY Chief of Fire Operations John Esposito said fire marshals are now investigating the cause. Building inspectors were headed to the scene to assess the stability of the damaged buildings.

They will likely have to be demolished.
