Four FDNY Firefighters Injured in Greenwich Village Tavern Fire

According to a report from ABC7, at least four Fire Department of New York (FDNY) firefighters were injured, one seriously, after the popular GMT Tavern, located on the corner of Bleecker and LaGuardia Place, was ruined in a three-alarm fire.

The fire was reported at 142 Bleecker Street just before 6 p.m. Monday.

Neighbors said the popular bar/restaurant was closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic and only reopened one month ago.

The FDNY arrived within three minutes of the initial call, but smoke was already intense and the flames were inside the ducts. Fortunately, upper-floor residents were able to evacuate the building without injuries.

FDNY officials said the fire may have started in the tavern, but the cause is still under investigation. Smoke could be seen pouring out of the building from miles away.
