Four Killed in Newark (NJ) Fire

A three-alarm fire in a vacant building extended to occupied buildings early this morning in Newark, New Jersey, killing four people in Newark.

The Star-Ledger reports (http://bit.ly/MOf1v9) that the fire began in a vacant building at 31 Brookdale Avenue, but by the time firefighters got the 1:41 a.m. call and responded, the fire had jumped to occupied buildings.

The dead are all in the top apartments of 33 Brookdale Avenue, but the fire also extended to other nearby structures. Four people have been confirmed dead, and 17 have been displaced.
