Frozen Hydrants at Four-Alarm Bayonne (NJ) Fire

A fire in Bayonne this afternoon has spread to a second home and it has gone to a fourth alarm, compounded by fire hydrants that are frozen, reports

Heavy smoke is coming from two homes on the block of attached homes. Bayonne firefighters are experiencing problems battling the flames because of the frozen hydrants, a fire official told The Jersey Journal.

The temperatures have been below freezing all week, although it is 32 degrees today. The frigid weather has made fighting fires extremely treacherous because of the icy conditions.

Mutual aid is expected from Jersey City, Kearny and North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue.
