Mayday and Firefighter Survival Training Seminars Coming to Pennsylvania

The Firefighters Support Foundation (FSF) is sponsoring the following two one-day seminars, on October 31 and November 1, in the Philadelphia and Lancaster (PA) areas. Each class will cost $65 per student with FSF picking up the remaining cost. These seminars use the state-of-the-art Guardian Safety and Survival Training SimulatorĀ® from Personal Protection Equipment Specialists (PPES). Class sizes is limited to 30 students. Each day-long seminar consists of two modules:

Mayday: During this module, students will perform tasks under stressful situations such as LUNAR, radio educate, skip breathing, knowing your location, and includes techniques for calming down (per scenarios), and much more. Based off National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1500, Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program, and NFPA 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications.

Fight for Your Life (Firefighter Survival): This module will provide students with greater situational awareness, firefighter survival skills, and the technical skills needed to avoid committing a fatal error on the fireground. It will will put students through SCBA drills, reorientations drills, disentanglement, and reading couplings, skip breathing, low profile maneuvers. Based off NFPA 1404, Standard for Fire Service Respiratory Protection Training, and NFPA 1407, Standard for Training Rapid Intervention Teams.
