Georgia Firefighter Killed, Five Injured in House Fire

One firefighter was killed in a Macon (GA) house fire that injured five others.

According to a report from 13wmaz.com (http://on.wmaz.com/1CkK2R6), the firefighter, Randy Parker, 46, suffered burns and smoke inhalation. One other firefighter was critically injured, the report said.

A county news release said the firefighters were injured when a floor collapsed inside the home Wednesday night. One firefighter reportedly became trapped for “a significant amount of time,” the report said.

The house caught fire just before 6 p.m., and occupants escaped safely.

According to the fatality report from the U.S. Fire Administration, Lieutenant Parker was pronounced dead at Medical Center-Navicent Health and at least five other firefighters were injured after a structural collapse occurred while fire crews were operating inside of a burning residential structure. According to media reports, the Bibb County coroner said Lieutenant Parker died from burns and smoke inhalation. Three of the injured firefighters are being treated at the Augusta Burn Center; one of the three was in critical condition and airlifted to the Center. The fatal fire incident remains under investigation by authorities.
