When firefighter Alexis Delisle arrived with Engine Company 4 at a fire call Saturday night, the route was more than familiar: She was responding to a fire at her own home, reports The Gainesville Sun.
The Gainesville Fire Rescue driver operator was the third unit to arrive at the house at 3020 NW 30th Terrace, and when she did, she saw smoke and flames coming from the rear roof.
When Delisle arrived at the scene, she said all she could think about was finding her husband and child and getting them outside, a GFR report said. Delisle could not be reached for comment on Sunday.
Delisle’s family was walking their dog around the neighborhood at about 8 p.m. while the fire erupted and were not injured. About 15 minutes after firefighters arrived, Delisle’s family arrived back at the house, where she was reunited with them.
The fire was believed to have started in the kitchen. It burned through the kitchen ceiling and into the attic. The combination of fire and smoke damage totaled about $40,000 for the home, which is estimated to be valued at $200,000.
