Double Fatality in Glen Burnie (MD) Fire

The remains of two individuals have been found inside a building that was the scene of a two-alarm fire this morning in Glen Burnie, Maryland. The scene remains an active investigation and fire investigators are not releasing any details concerning the identity of the individuals pending notification of the families.

Firefighters were called to the 300 block of Arundel Corporation Road at approximately 9:30 am for a report of a commercial building fire.

The first crew on location reported heavy fire through the roof and requested a second alarm assignment , bringing a total of 60 firefighters to the scene. The fire was placed under control at approximately 10:25 am. No firefighters were injured during the blaze.

After the fire was declared under control, fire investigators were made aware of the possibility that two individuals might be inside the structure. A careful search was undertaken with the assistance of a collapse rescue team from the County Fire Department, a County Building Inspector, and a K-9 unit from the Howard County Fire Department.

Searchers located two deceased individuals inside the structure. The cause of death is unknown and positive identification is being coordinated with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
