Glen Rock (NJ) Firefighters Battle Garage Fire with Extension

Article and photos by Peter Danzo

At about 11:20 on February 1, 2015, firefighters from the Glen Rock (NJ) Fire Department responded to 792 Maple Ave. for a reported garage fire. The first-arriving chief reported an attached garage fully involved and extending into the home and requested a second alarm.

Mutual aid from Fair Lawn, Hawthorne, and Ridgewood responded to assist. While some companies attacked the heavy fire in the garage, additional lines were stretched into the home and quickly knocked down the fire that had extended inside.

The garage was a total loss; the home suffered heat, smoke, and some fire damage but there were no reported injuries. Firefighters were able to rescue one dog, however two cats perished in the blaze. The fire was placed under control at around 12:25 p.m.
