Glendale (AZ) Firefighter Injured During Mountain Rescue

A firefighter was injured while helping two hikers off a northwest Phoenix mountain, reports

Phoenix fire spokesman Jonathan Jacobs said the rescue began around 2:30 p.m. when two females hiking for an extended period of time became exhausted and were unable to walk down without help.

Fire crews from Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria and Scottsdale all assisted with the rescue near 57th Drive and Happy Valley Road.

The two women were treated on the mountain for weakness and heat-related symptoms and were taken off the trail safely.

Jacobs said they refused further treatment or transport to the hospital.
However, during the rescue one of Glendale’s firefighters was injured, suffering a leg fracture.

He was the last to be taken off the mountain and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
