/

According to a report from WRAL, a grandmother and her granddaughter were killed in a fire erupted in their northeast Raleigh, North Carolina, condominium at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. Three other family members were rescued by fire crews.

Multiple fire crews responded to the home on Grinding Stone Drive in the Walden Woods condominiums near East Millbrook Road and Atlantic Avenue.

Officials said that, on arrival, they had to rescue a mother and her infant daughter on the back deck of the home. Firefighters then conducted a search of the home and rescued a boy who was trapped inside.

Firefighters said that the grandmother and granddaughter did not make it out of the house. The three rescued family members were transported to WakeMed in stable condition with burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire, which was determined to have started in the kitchen, is now under investigation. A fire report indicated that the home had no working smoke detectors. A second unit was also damaged in the fire.
