Fire Museum of Maryland Hosts Annual Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 Museum and Bus Tour

The Fire Museum of Maryland hosts its annual Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 Museum and Bus Tour on the fire’s anniversary; February 6, 2011, 1 – 4:15 pm. This historic fire destroyed 140 acres of downtown Baltimore in less than thirty hours. Historian Wayne Schaumburg will give a slide show at the Fire Museum before leading the tour of the downtown area destroyed by the fire.
 
Guests travel to three locations by motor coach to grasp the fire’s magnitude and how businesses were affected. See how the fire changed Baltimore into a modern industrial city. At each stop, there will be a short walking tour of no more than a city blocks long.
 
Back at the museum, the curator will discuss the fire-related maps, artifacts, and photographs in the museum’s extensive collection. Visitors can see four fire engines used to fight the fire. Light refreshments will be served.
