Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director of Public Affairs Robert Mahaffey has confirmed that FEMA Director Louis O. Guiffrida is expected to leave FEMA on or about October 1, the start of the new fiscal year. He has held the top post there for over five years.

The announcement follows various rumors concerning Guiffrida’s possible resignation.

Acting as spokesman, Mahaffey stated that Guiffrida feels he has fulfilled many of the goals he had set for himself and the Agency over the past five years through overseeing the execution and fruition of FEMA’s various programs.

According to Mahaffey, Guiffrida is now ready to move on to a different type of position, either inside or outside the government. No specific plans have been announced at this time.
