Homicide and Arson Investigation Underway After Man Found Dead in IL Fire

Authorities are investigating a possible homicide and arson after a fire broke out at a home in North Lawndale, where firefighters discovered the body of a 68-year-old man.

Firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from a residence on the 2300 block of South Kirkland Avenue late Friday night, WGN reports. Upon extinguishing the flames, firefighters found the man’s body in the basement with several limbs severed.

Family members of the victim arrived at the scene Saturday morning to retrieve personal belongings but declined to speak to the media.

No additional injuries were reported from the fire.
