House Fire Burns Woman, Firefighters

Virginia Beach, VA, October 31, 2001-A dwelling fire and collapse seriously burned one resident and slightly burned two firefighters.

The two residents jumped into water behind the house, but not before one resident suffered burns to more than 30 percent of her body.

Approximately 20 minutes into the fire, the home collapsed. Fire officials said that the type of wood used to construct the house contributed to its quick collapse.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
