Houston Firefighter Calls Mayday at Multi-Alarm Fire

Houston Fire Department

Three firefighters were rescued from a three-alarm downtown fire, reports ABC 13 Eyewitness News.

The building is over 90 years old with a lot of debris and had no sprinklers and unknown structural issues.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the fire occurred in the building’s basement. The structure was located at Main Street Market at 901 Main.  The report notes that something was burning inside that caused a massive amount of smoke to carry throughout the building and into the downtown airspace. Firefighters operating on the top floors of the structure declared a Mayday when one member suffered from heat exhaustion; the three-person crew escape and the member in question was transported in stable condition.
