
A Houston (TX) firefighter has died in the line of duty following a warehouse fire, reports say.
Firefighter Marcelo Garcia from Station 23/B passed away after a four-alarm fire on Polk Street, according to a release from the union. Firefighter Garcia, 42, was a 10-year veteran of the department, KHOU reported.
According to Harris County Constable Mark Herman, Houston firefighters arrived on the scene around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, and found heavy flames coming from the warehouse. While putting out the fire, a wall fell on three of the members. They were all taken to the hospital, however firefighter Marcelo Garcia succumbed to his injuries. Another member is recovering from minor injuries.
A public viewing will be held Tuesday, November 12 from 5-8 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home at 6900 Lawndale, 77023. A separate, private viewing will be held for Garcia’s family and friends.
The funeral service for Firefighter Garcia will be Wednesday, 11/13 at 9 a.m. at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart downtown.
