Hydrant marker.

Hydrant marker.

Knowing immediately if a hydrant is out of service can save valuable time during an incident. The Trenton, NJ, Fire Department designed an easy, inexpensive way of marking their out-ofservice hydrants. A 9 X 9inch yellow plate of sheet ■metal with a 572-inch hole cut in the middle is stenciled with the number of the fire station. The hydrant’s steamer cap is removed and the plate placed over the threads and the cap replaced. This marker enables incoming units to quickly determine if a hydrant ⅛ operational. -John K.
