Hydrate…the Yoga Way

By Claire Diab and Dennis Boyle

Coconut water is the liquid that is found inside young coconuts before they mature. Coconut water is high in potassium and contains antioxidants linked to a variety of health benefits. Cytokinins, or plant growth hormones, in coconut water may be among its most beneficial components. Cytokinins slow down the normal sequence of aging in human or animal cells.

Nutrient content varies slightly from brand to brand. Coconut water is naturally low in calories and fat-free. A serving has about the same amount of potassium as a banana and is low in sodium. It also has calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.

The high potassium and low sodium content of coconut water has a nutrient profile shown to help lower high blood pressure.

Coconut water’s electrolyte (aid in a number of vital bodily processes) content is very similar to human plasma, and therefore making it a fantastic sports drink, giving you rehydration.

Those who drink coconut water on a regular basis usually have a smooth and lovely complexion.
