The juvenile fire setter subcommittee of the (International Association of Arson Investigators, Inc. (IAAI) is requesting examples of case studies involving juvenile-set fires from every IAAI chapter. The committee is compiling examples to be included in a national training curriculum. It would like examples of youth-set fires by youths ranging in age from four to 17. While it desires high-profile cases, the committee would like examples of typical juvenile cases that had positive intervention or treatment results as well. It also seeks case studies that may involve special needs youth or parent/caregivers. The case study should be one or two pages long and follow the following guidelines:
- Case Summary that includes just a first name.
- Facts of the case including:
- Location of the origin of the fire;
- Ignition source;
- What was on fire
- Who was involved;
- Dollar loss;
- Injuries if any;
- Photo and/or newspaper clippings;
- Was the youth cited with a fire offense;
- If the youth was not cited, the method of accountability used;
- History of prior fire setting behavior;
- Any other agency involvement;
- Any unusual aspect about the case; and
- Outcome of the case.
Submit case studies by June 10, 2004. Include your name, department, state, IAAI chapter, telephone number, and email address. Send case studies to:
