IAFC Installs Chief Bill Killen as President

Fairfax, VA – The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) installed William “Bill” Killen, fire chief of the Holston Army Ammunition Plant, Wackenhut Services Inc. in Kingsport, Tennessee, as its president during Fire-Rescue International in Denver. The installation ceremony was held the evening of Saturday, August 13, during the FRI Presidential Celebration.

Also installed were Chief Jim Harmes, who became first vice president, and Chief Steven Westermann, who became second vice president.

As president, Chief Killen will provide leadership to a 17-member board and 35-member staff located in Fairfax, VA, and will serve as the primary spokesperson for the association on matters of national and international interest. He will be called to testify at House and Senate hearings and is the representative dignitary for the association in all major political and international functions.

Chief Killen became fire chief of the Army Ammunition Plant, Wackenhut Services Inc. in January 2005. He served as director, Navy Fire & Emergency Services, from 1985 to September 3, 2004. He brings more than 49 years experience as a volunteer and career firefighter and chief officer in career, municipal, industrial, federal and military fire departments, to the IAFC board.

Chief Killen holds a bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration from the University College, University of Maryland and holds the Chief Fire Officer designation.

As an active member of the IAFC for 30 years, Killen has served on several committees and was the founder and charter chairman of the IAFC Federal & Military Section.
