IAFF Pledges to Work Closely with Tom Ridge

Washington, D.C., October 9 – PRNewswire reports that the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) has committed itself to working with Tom Ridge, the newly appointed Homeland Security Director and former governor of Pennsylvania, to ensure that the nation’s firefighters, police, and other first responders are prepared to handle future terrorist incidents.

IAFF President Harold Schaitberger said his hopes are that some of the funds that go to the military to combat terrorism might be allocated to the fire service. “I hope to work with Director Ridge to get some much needed funding to the front lines of the war against terrorism,” says Schaitberger.

Firefighters are most often the first emergency personnel called to terrorist incidents.
