The University of Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) recognizes instructors who exemplify quality instruction, student engagement, professional demeanor and knowledge base. Jamar Sullivan is IFSI’s September Instructor of the Month. He was nominated by Fred McClellan who is a field instructor for IFSI.
Jamar joined IFSI as an instructor in 2005. Jamar has been a member of the Chicago Fire Department since 1998 and has served as a lieutenant since October 2013. He is best known for teaching under IFSI’s Special Operations Training Program (SOTP) classes of HazMat, Trench Rescue and Confined Space Rescue. Jamar also teaches the Fireground Officer class. “I’ve taken a lot of classes at IFSI. When Jamar teaches the PowerPoint section of the classes, he keeps the students’ attention and makes interaction fun for all,” Fred McClellan said. “He also shows great leadership in both the classroom and the field.”
Jamar is a native of Chicago and graduated from Harold Washington College in Chicago with an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science.
