In this first incident, fire crews responded on Sunday to a garage fire in Lake Villa Township, Illinois (shown in the photo above). According to a report from the Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/1CrzXIa), an unattended barbecue set the detached garage ablaze. The homeowner initially tried to extinguish the flames, which were driven by the wind and eventually got out of control.

The garage was completely destroyed, but no one was injured.

Lake Villa crews also responded as mutual aid to a deadly house fire in Antioch. At least 10 departments responded to this fire.

A 76-year-old resident was unable to escape and was found dead by firefighters, according to the Chicago Tribune (http://trib.in/1MH7iAc). A woman was hospitalized in serious condition, and six of the seven residents were able to escape the fire prior to the arrival of firefighters.
