The Moline (IL) fire chief has resigned in the wake of the city’s plan to privatize EMS service, a move which would cut 12 firefighter positions.
According to a report on WQAD.com, Chief Ron Miller’s resignation at a Tuesday night city council meeting came as a shock to fellow firefighters. Miller has characterized the move to privatize EMS in Moline a threat to public safety.
Moline’s decision to privatize EMS is part of an attempt to close a massive budget deficit in the city. Twelve firefighters will be laid off because of the endeavor.
