IL Fire District’s Firehouse Dog Passes On

Fire photographer Tim Olk shared photos from a memorial held for the beloved firehouse dog of the Lincolnshire Riverwoods Fire Protection District.

K9 Irie, who was a search and rescue canine, answered her final call at home surrounded by her family, Lincolnshire Riverwoods firefighters, and many other firefighters and K9 teams from all over Illinois.

K9 Irie held many certifications in tracking, trailing, article search, and obedience. She was also a type 1 disaster/live find canine for the State of Illinois’s Urban Search and Rescue – Task Force 1. K9 Irie and her handler FF/PM Vitale were also one of the founding members of the K9/Drone Search and Rescue Strike Team, a multijurisdictional Fire Department based team that responds throughout northern Illinois to assist agencies in locating lost or missing individuals.  K9 Irie and her handler FF/ PM Vitale have trained all over the country and were able to help many people in need.
