IL Firefighters Operate at Extra-Alarm Dwelling Fire

Write up and photos by Dave Traiforos

Cold weather across the Midwest seems to have brought more fire activity to the region, as well as making conditions difficult for firefighters there.

Last Wednesday, Oak Park (IL) firefighters battled an extra-alarm fire in a two-story dwelling. Command took a defensive posture with this structure and had to deal with exposure problems.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The fire began in the structure’s basement and got a good jump, burning away the stairs to the basement and extending up in the walls, floors, and ceiling of the balloon-frame home.
