The Indianapolis (IN) Fire Department (IFD) responded Monday to a significant fire at a scrap metal yard.
Firefighters were dispatched at 5:10 p.m. to 2400 Bluff Road for a massive 100 x 100 yard, 30-foot tall scrap metal pile at Saul Good Industries. No employees were on site when the fire occurred. Companies commenced an aggressive attack.
The Indianapolis International Airport responded with a crash truck to assist IFD crews. Contending with persistent smoke conditions, firefighters used all available water with four aerial operations in use, along with monitor nozzles. The smoke limited movement and made it difficult for crews to place aerial nozzles effectively.
The fire at Saul Goode Industries was marked under control at around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday, and command on this incident was terminated at 5:50 a.m. All companies returned to service, and there were no injuries.
