The People’s Burn Foundation (PBF) recently awarded its 2001 True Blue Award to the Indianapolis (IN) Metropolitan Firefighters Local #416, marking the first time the honor was given to a group instead of an individual. Local 416 is made up of more than 2,000 central Indiana firefighters representing 21 jurisdictions. Tom Hanify, general president, accepted the award on behalf of the local’s firefighters.
Among the PBF programs for which Local 416 was cited are Brave Hearts’ Camp, a week-long camp for young burn survivors; Extinguish the Need (ETN) program, a program offering comprehensive services to families displaced or victimized by fire; and ETN’s educational component, which involves developing and implementing an interactive play for school-age children that highlights burn hazards in and around the home.
